Ho Chi Minh City announced the establishment of a new press and broadcasting agency on June 20, effective July 1. This new public non-business unit, operating under the municipal Party Committee, consolidates major media outlets to serve as the city’s key multimedia media organization. The move aims to combine the strengths and resources of its predecessor organizations, creating a more influential communications group.
The agency integrates Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper, Tuoi Tre (Youth) Online Newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV), and the Training and Communications Centre. This consolidation brings together diverse platforms, from print to online and television, under a single administrative structure. The objective is to streamline operations and enhance content quality across all affiliated outlets.
Le Van Minh, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Dien Hong ward, was appointed director general of the newly formed agency. He committed to rapidly consolidating the agency’s organizational structure and personnel. This consolidation is intended to ensure smooth operations and align with the agency’s mission of improving publication and program quality.
Four deputy directors general were also appointed. These include Nguyen Khac Van, Acting Editor-in-Chief of Sai Gon Giai Phong; Cao Anh Minh, Director General of HTV; Tran Xuan Toan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuoi Tre; and To Dinh Tuan, Editor-in-Chief of Nguoi Lao Dong. These appointments draw on existing leadership from the integrated media outlets.
The establishment of the new agency is considered a strategic milestone by Standing Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Le Quoc Phong. He emphasized that the agency combines the experience and resources of its predecessor organizations. This integration is expected to foster a more cohesive and impactful multimedia communications group for the city.
The agency is tasked with quickly stabilizing its operations and ensuring uninterrupted information dissemination across all platforms. Officials called for the agency to lead comprehensive digital transformation. This transformation includes moving towards an integrated media ecosystem, with digital technology as its core foundation, especially in the era of artificial intelligence.
Future efforts will focus on how quickly the agency can achieve operational stability and implement its digital transformation goals. The impact of this consolidation on content quality and audience engagement will be closely watched. The integration of artificial intelligence into its media ecosystem represents a significant technological shift for the city’s public information services.
