AI Romance Hoax Targets Man, Family Photos Used

An administrative assistant identified as Luke discovered manipulated images of himself online in December 2025, depicting him with a woman claiming to be his fiancĂ©e and their supposed child. The fabricated photos, which appeared to be generated by artificial intelligence, also included his sister’s children, creating an elaborate AI romance hoax that caused significant distress to his family.

Luke’s sister first alerted him to the images after a friend, who knew Luke was single and childless, noticed them. The friend recognized the discrepancy between the online narrative and Luke’s actual relationship status. The sister attempted to contact the woman posting the photos, demanding their removal, particularly because her then six-month-old son’s image was used in the fake content. No response was received.

The family expressed deep concern over the unauthorized use of their children’s images. Luke’s sister stated, “We were very worried and concerned that this stranger has photos and videos of my children stored in her phone and was sharing them online as and when she likes.” This incident has led to increased paranoia and anxiety about sharing personal content online, especially after finding her son’s photo on the woman’s Instagram account.

Luke later identified the woman as a former schoolmate he had not seen in approximately 15 years. He recalled speaking “no more than two sentences to her when we were in school.” The discovery that an acquaintance from his past was behind the elaborate deception was unexpected, as he had no prior indication of her capacity for such actions.

The manipulated images included various scenarios: AI-generated pictures of Luke and the woman during their school days and on dates, the woman appearing pregnant, and Luke holding a supposed newborn with the caption “My boys.” These fabrications extended to photos of his nephew and niece, then aged six months and one year. An analysis of one image revealed a distorted pattern on a chair, consistent with AI manipulation.

The psychological impact on Luke has been considerable. He reported difficulty sleeping and concentrating on work since discovering the images. He described the experience as “traumatizing to learn that your pictures were used in such an elaborate narrative.” The incident highlights the emotional toll and privacy concerns associated with sophisticated digital manipulation.

The full extent of the woman’s motivations remains unclear, as does how she obtained the original images used for manipulation. The lack of response from the individual posting the content leaves the family with unresolved questions regarding the security of their personal information and the potential for further misuse.

This case underscores the growing challenges individuals face in protecting their digital identity and privacy in an era of increasingly accessible AI image generation tools. Future developments may involve legal recourse or further investigations into the origin and dissemination of such fabricated content, as families grapple with the implications of online impersonation and digital harassment.
